Dear Parents, Guardians and Students / Annwyl Rieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr
LHS Master Chef Challenge Quarter-finals
Our inaugural School Master Chef Challenge competition reached an exciting milestone on Tuesday with the Quarter Final challenge, where students were tasked with creating delicious muffins on a limited budget. This round tested not only their practical cooking skills, but also their creativity, planning and ability to make thoughtful financial decisions. Fifteen contestants entered the kitchen and it very quickly came alive with aromas that instantly wrapped around you like a delicious hug.

Working under pressure, students carefully selected ingredients, managed costs and demonstrated impressive resourcefulness. From classic flavours to more adventurous combinations, the variety and quality on display were outstanding. It was particularly pleasing to see how confidently students adapted their ideas to stay within budget without compromising on taste or presentation.
The standard was exceptionally high, making judging no easy task. Students showed resilience, teamwork and a real passion for food, embodying the spirit of the competition. We are incredibly proud of all who took part and look forward to seeing how our talented young chefs rise to the challenge in the next round. Here are a few more action shots!

Here’s the brigade…

Full disclosure…
In the knowledge that there were 15 muffins to taste, Mrs Pettit and I were in agreement from the outset that we would just have a very small taste of each one.
However, the deliciousness did mean that we pretty much demolished everything. There were liquid chocolate centres, chocolate orange surprises, poppy seed and lemon bursts, rhubarb jam centres, red velvet, chocolate covered cherries, and so much more.
As a lifelong fan of food and Master Chef, this was a good day at the office.

Congratulations to Amelie, Lilly, Peyton-Rae, Isobela, Sam, Maria, Tara, Daisy and Emily who are through to the semi-finals next week.
Mr Maidment will be joining Mrs Pettit in the judging hot seat. I recommend you have a very light lunch next Tuesday, Sir!
Tips for getting outdoors
Next today, the lovely weather is set to make a comeback next week, so let’s see how life is going for our students in the great outdoors.
Make hay …
On the last Friday before half term, the English Department took 40 of our fabulous pupils to Hay Festival. The sun came out to welcome us and we had an amazing day with pupils from year 9; student librarians and the ‘Book Bingo’ reading challenge winners from years 7-10
Clara from 7D, gives her review below.
I really enjoyed Hay Festival. It is a very cultural, diverse and immersive day out. One of my favourite parts about the festival were the author talks. Matt Goodfellow, author of Six Weeks, gave a very engaging and interesting talk discussing young people’s grief reflected in (a) book(s). Sarah Crossan’s talk was very lively and interactive, showing a theme of never-judge-a-book-by-its-cover. And finally, was a very eye-opening, perspective-changing talk by Bernadine Evaristo, discussing prejudice, racism and self-belief. Overall, it was a very exciting day out at the Hay-on-Wye book festival.

Back at the ranch…
Meanwhile, back in school, we’ve been dealing with the reality of what happens when we have sun and rain in abundance! Our school garden almost exploded overnight!
There was only one solution. Enlist Year 7 to get busy strimming, weeding, hoeing, and general tidying…
