Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rhieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr

Awards Evening

On Wednesday 26th June we enjoyed one of our most favourite nights of the year – the annual Awards Evening. The evening was compared magnificently by Mr Mee. Please join us in congratulating everyone who was nominated for effort and achievement across all the different categories. Everyone navigated the stairs and the stage with confidence. They gave a strong handshake, and then radiated with these beautiful smiles on the way back down. We are exceptionally proud of you all. Thank you to the students and mums/dads, family members and friends for joining us and applauding with all your mite! Here is one fabulous line up!

We also commend those students who were the recipients of the individual awards. These included awards for excellence in history, languages, music, creative writing, maths, sporting excellence and wellbeing, as well as our champions in the Autism Base, Hearing Impaired Resource Base, and Learning Support. Exceptionally worthy winners.

Thank you to Owen Holcombe, Florence Davies and Maisie Lancaster for some stunning and diverse musical interludes.  Your talent and confidence combined with such humble dispositions is a thing of beauty.

We were also inspired by our guest speaker and Alumni, Mohammed ‘Jaffar’ El Kaddu.  Jaffar is currently studying Medicine at Cardiff University. We were delighted to welcome him back and were inspired by the words of wisdom he imparted to our current students.  Mr Mee is still looking for his ‘chi.’ We’ll keep you posted Jaffar! Thank you for bringing your energy. We look forward to following your career, for which, there is no ceiling.

There is always a sad/happy moment in each Awards Evening as we face the reality that this will be one of the last performances for some of our amazing Year 13’s.  After 7 years, it’s a wrench to have them leave us.  But a joy to see the path they are following. Owen – come back often (and bring your drumsticks)…and keep us posted on your career.  In ten years-time, we should have an LHS student playing one of your songs at the Awards Evening!

We finish with a thank you to all the family and friends who attended.  Thank you for allowing us the privilege of educating your offspring.  You were rightly proud! The photographs from the evening were taken by another LHS Alumni, Dave Mertens, and are available from the year teams.

Rites of Passage

Every year, I mellow a little bit more towards the rites of passage that have gathered momentum in previous years – the Year 11 Prom and Year 13 Leavers Ball. They reflect the power of moments in time. They establish a milestone in our memory (aided greatly in recent years by the advent of social media which kindly reminds us what we were doing on this day 5 years ago).

So, after much hard work, it is time to reap some rewards. We bring you the glitz and glamour of the ball. Year 13 and Year 11 looked spectacular.  More importantly, they were amazing company. Let’s start with some snaps from Year 13…

Year 11 did not disappoint with the energy they attacked their prom night with.  The danced as if there was no-one watching. It was wonderful to see both year groups celebrating 5/7 years of friendship and collective hard work.  You can feel the energy coming through these photographs!

On behalf of Years 11 and 13, can I say a huge thank you to the Year 11 and 13 staff teams for all the hard work that went in to the organisation of these events. Your attention to detail was fabulous.

Whist Year 13 and Year 11 can do no more, there is no rest for Year 12. They enjoyed a day to get really stuck in to their future plans.  During their visit to Cardiff Metropolitan University, they were able to visualise life after Sixth Form and to round up their ambition and talent  to start to formulate a plan of action.

Fashion and Textiles also made a recent appearance at Cardiff Met!

In addition to Year 12, our Fashion and Textiles Design and Technology Department were really grateful for the opportunity to display their work at Cardiff Met University! They are ‘super proud’ of all of the students work!  It was also an opportunity to share good practice and learn from other schools. We hope this will be an annual tradition. We are proud to share some of the highlights from 2025!

Athletics success!

It is no wonder that Mr Emanuel is proud of his Year 7 athletics team.  He’s sending a massive shout out to you all. You demonstrated brilliant attitudes and best efforts in all events despite the 30° heat on the track!

As we approach the end of a very warm week, well done to everyone for making it through with good grace.

The school production of Made in Dagenham was phenomenal and we look forward to bringing you photos from behind the scenes as well as from the stage.

Until then, have a lovely weekend.
