Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rhieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr

Behind the scenes at rehearsals for Made in Dagenham 2025!

As the final half-term of our academic year gets underway, time is accelerating towards the LHS summer production of ‘Made in Dagenham.’  With every production, the cast and crew transport us to another place in time and unravel a powerful story. Made in Dagenham is set to unleash upon us on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of July 2025.

Tickets are selling fast so don’t delay, get booking today. Once your ticket is secure, you can relax in the knowledge that you will enjoy a mind-blowing experience. On the night itself you will be able to invest further in a quality programme, the raffle bonanza, and a wide range of refreshments.

I was privileged to gate crash rehearsals to capture some snaps of the production in action.  It was amazing to see the inclusive cast (ranging from Year 7 through to Year 13) getting into character and getting into fine voice. The atmosphere was electric. Caring. Encouraging. Fun. Expressive. Vibrant. Terrifying! Passionate. And real.

These lot have some serious moves. And it was amazing to see some faces that are new to our school productions! Please go quickly to ParentPay to book your seats now!

Year 9 go Gorge Scrambling!

Next today, let’s see how brave we are!  How many of us would throw ourselves into freezing cold water?! Well – Year 9 certainly did!

Last week, Mr Owen and Mrs Beck accompanied 10 of our well deserving Year 9 students on an exciting day of Gorge Scrambling at the beautiful waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons National Park.  They made their way up the river gorge by climbing and scrambling, finishing with adrenaline-pumping jumps into the waterfalls.  The rivers were in prime condition offering a unique opportunity to learn all the techniques that are needed to scramble along a river journey.  The trip also encouraged team bonding and helped everyone to overcome personal challenges.

We were incredibly proud of all of our students who demonstrated a number of our core values including ambition and resilience. The trip was a great success and we would encourage all pupils to take up such opportunities in the future.

Updates from our Learning Support Team

This week the Learning Support ‘Star of the Week’ award goes to Logan Cocks in Year 9.

Logan showed amazing enthusiasm and effort in his PE session.  He’s had a brilliant week, well done Logan 😁

We are also exceptionally proud of the team who ran their 5k at Roath Park last month.

The final fundraising total was over £1,500.  The power of the team and the impact of building resilience! A superb effort.

PRIDE is alive!

As June continues, we would also like to take the opportunity to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community.  It’s not just about flying the flag.  It is about showing up as yourself and supporting others to do the same.

Our Pride Alliance always welcome new members to keep pushing for freedom, acceptance and understanding.  Not just in the month of June, but every day. It is not just for members of the LGBTQ+ community but for any member of the school that is interested in promoting respect and kindness.  Please see Miss Evans, Assistant Headteacher, for more information.

For those of you wondering what we are raising money for, have no fear as I will explain…

I come from a Radio background, having hosted, produced and edited various shows including my own for a number of years on Xpress Radio Cardiff.

When I joined Llanishen High School I worked with Mrs Pawar to set up our very own radio station for our students, and we got recording! Unfortunately, our equipment was damaged in an accident a few years ago and are now fundraising to buy new equipment and to get back to where we were, with a HUGE schedule of amazing radio and podcast shows hosted by our wonderful students!

I have planned this prize draw and the other that will happen in July, to raise as many funds as we can and to give back to our students and parents with over 50 wonderful prizes over 2 prize draws.

Best of luck to you all! Don’t fret if you don’t win in the first round because there is always the 2nd round in July with a further 20 prizes to be won. All the best, may the odds be ever in your favour, and may the force be with you!

So, that’s a wrap for another week.

It’s not too early to commend Years 10 through to 13 on an exemplary exam series.  The end is in touching distance next week.

We look forward to celebrating with our Year 11 students in their leavers assembly on Thursday. We’ll be signing shirts and taking them down memory lane!  Also, it’s the end of an era for Year 13 as they put on their finery for their leavers dinner next Friday.  More to follow on these milestones and more…..
