Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rhieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr

Welcome back!

Welcome back to what promises to be a very short but intense half-term. We hope that everyone had a restful break and is now ready for the 3-weeks ahead. Before we launch into the summer term, let’s revisit some of the great moments from the last week of the spring term!

Battle of the Bands!

What a turn out! Llanishen High held their first Battle of the Bands during the week before the Easter break.

From Metallica to Wheatus, staff and students battled it out to be the best.

Who knew Llanishen has so much talent amongst the students and staff!

The line-up of bands included:

The Disclaimers.  This band featured Mr Wolverson, Mr Grimstead, Mrs Cumpstone, Mr Fox and Mr Snaith.

Abi. A solo performance from Abigail Marshall.

ALM.  This band featured Oscar Power, Ethan Bateman, Oscar Smith and Robert Melkonian.

Late to Reg. This band featured Mr Mann, Mr Thomas, Mr Thomas, Mr Prince and Mr Grimstead.

The Beetles.  This band featured Elinor Maizey, Seren Hayes, Freddie Pritchard and Mr Grimstead.

MMIS.  This band featured Ben Howells, Sam Palmer, Fin De’ath and Morgan Howden.

It was amazing to see so many students, staff and parents attending the gig and supporting our bands. All money raised will be going towards funding more equipment for future band projects and events.

A big well done to every band involved, but a huge congratulations to MMIS who won the public vote and became LHS Battle of the Band Champions 2025!

Fancy getting involved? Get a band together and get practicing for next year! 🤘🎸

Our thanks go to Mrs S Cumpstone for organising the gig. May it become an annual event. If you missed it, please soak up the atmosphere through these excellent photos!

Introducing our Senior Prefect Team

The brief flowering of the beautiful cherry blossom trees signals another key annual event.  Time to assemble the Sixth Form Senior Prefect team for a photograph.  This year, they are more active in the school than ever before.  They’ve been promoting their role and the importance of student leadership in assemblies as well as taking an active role on duty spots around the school.  Watch this space for more….

Llongyfarchiadau mawr!!

Next today, we wish to congratulate Alan Nazemi in Year 8 on achieving 2nd place in the Cardiff and Vale Eisteddfod prelims. These were held at the All-Nations Centre on Friday 28th March.

Alan took part in the Welsh solo recitation with a poem called ‘Y Llyfrgell’/ ‘The Library’.

Alan’s performances are confident, articulate and inspiring!

The Welsh department, along with the whole school, are very proud of his excellent effort and achievement. Da iawn Alan!!

What’s your superpower?

We would also like to give a big shout out to all the excellent work that goes on in every classroom every hour of the day.

For their study of Rick Riordan’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’, Mrs Weston’s Year 7 classes were set the homework task of researching a successful person who has dyslexia, like Percy, to help change the perception of dyslexia and realise that it can in fact be a superpower!

We had an array of skills and talents, including film directors, wildlife presenters, poets, chefs, actors, boxers and superheroes.

Winning the reward notes from 7D were Hafsa Imran, Charlie Flowers and Leo Hancock and, from 7H,  Nico Hills, Yusuf Rizwan and Eli Robinson.

Fantastic work, Year 7! Here are a few examples…

Llanishen High School has a Welsh National Champion!

We are also very excited to share some news from the Easter break.

Kamil Omar in Year 10 cemented his name as the best 60kg 2009/10 Junior boxer in Wales! This extends his amateur record to 25 bouts 17 wins. 🥇

Kamil beat a talented opponent from Rhoose by unanimous decision.

The next stop for Kamil will be to represent his country in the British championship in June.

This is a massive achievement for Kamil, for Llanishen Boxing Club and for our school.

Before we share some photos, we must also say a massive well done to Naim Sakka who also boxed his way to the national championship final but came up short against the current Welsh national champion in his respective 48kg weight category.

Naim is only in Year 9 but being a 2010 birthday competes in the 2009/10 and found himself against a Year 11 component from Cwmbran.

Naim was outstanding as always. Extending his own amateur record to 25 bouts 11 wins. Naim brings a silver medal back to school. 🥈

Our thanks go to Luke Richards and the Llanishen Boxing Club for a great partnership.  Now, here’s some great photos!

So, this week our round up has taken us from the mosh pit of the West Wing Hall, to the Urdd stage, to the boxing ring and back again.

A fitting reminder that during the stress of the exam season, it is vital to keep engaging in activities to support your wellbeing.  Those activities may be creative or active, or could simply be a few pages of a book that transports you somewhere else

Well done to Years 7, 8 and 9 who have completed the Welsh National Tests this week. This give us really important information about progress and will be shared with parents imminently.

For Years 10 through to 13, this is it. We’re here.  The exam desks are out and we are all here to support you. More on this over the coming weeks.

Wishing everyone a good early May-bank holiday weekend.  The gift of an additional day to find a quiet shady spot for some quality revision.

Thank you for reading/Diolch am ddarllen,
