Friday 9th October 2026

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr

A big shout out to our amazing staff!

First, well done to everyone for making it through one of the most exhausting school months of the year – September!

It is always a busy month filled with excitement and new opportunity, whether it is your first September at LHS, or your 35th September at LHS!

Joining the school in 1992, Mr Edwards is our longest serving member of staff and is embracing his 35th September.  Joining us in 2026 is Miss Pritchard as she embarks on her teaching career.

What a fitting way to celebrate World Teachers’ Day 2026.  This marks 60 years since the 1966 Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

So, we asked this youthful pair to share their reflections.  Reflective words of wisdom and hopeful words of ambition and hope.

Since posting across our school Facebook and Instagram accounts, there have been some lovely comments from ex-pupils, including one lady who was in Mr Edwards’ first form group. I shall pass these comments on to Mr Edwards who understandably lives a very full and happy life without the need for social media!  And I’ll leave you with their words of wisdom…

Also, we have only recently celebrated National Teaching Assistants’ Day.  It was a pleasure to feature Miss Ali, a former student, who has returned to support our pupils, including Thalia.

Our support staff play such a vital role in school life.  From lessons, to visits, after school clubs, productions, Enrichment, pastoral support, and so much more.  We would be lost without them.  In the words of Miss Ali herself…

“As a former student of LHS it is truly special to return and give back to the school community – working with young people who show remarkable resilience, passion and commitment every day.”

A new generation for 2027!

On Tuesday evening it was an absolute pleasure to welcome Year 5 and 6 pupils and their parents to come and explore the school.

It was standing room only in both sittings and it was really lovely to talk to so many prospective students.

Once again, our thanks and appreciation go to our current LHS students who fell over each other in offering to undertake a wide range of roles to make the evening a success.  From the challenging job of car park duty, through to tour guides and ambassadors, to subject helpers in different areas – you were all outstanding!

The ceiling tiles took a battering again.  But we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Well done to Chloe on running this quite complex demonstration all night!

One of the provisions that Year 5 and 6 were really keen to see was the new school library and the opportunities it brings, not just for lessons and borrowing books.  Here are members of the after-school library collective showing their stuff.  New members welcome!

Fortunately, these lot never stop striving for more improvement and they are on a mission to further expand their stock. So they are currently fundraising and we’ll keep you posted on their progress!

If you would like to make a small contribution to get them started, look no further …

It is also good to see the library being used by after school clubs including Dungeons and Dragons club (D&D).

Far more than simply a game, D&D encourages students to work together, solve complex problems and unleash their creativity through collaborative storytelling. Students create characters, embark on adventures and face challenges that require teamwork, communication and strategic thinking.

It is wonderful to see students developing confidence, resilience and leadership skills while having great fun with their friends. The club offers a welcoming space where imagination flourishes, friendships grow and every student has the opportunity to contribute to an adventure that is uniquely their own.

Our fantastic Welsh Ambassadors, the Criw Cymraeg

As a proud Welsh school, we are always looking for new and exciting ways to celebrate and promote our language and culture. It was therefore a pleasure for our fantastic Criw Cymraeg to visit Ysgol y Wern recently, where they met with fellow Welsh Ambassadors to share ideas, experiences and best practice in encouraging the use of Cymraeg across our school communities.

During the visit, students discussed the many initiatives taking place in both schools and explored innovative ways to increase the everyday use of Welsh amongst young people. They were also given a tour of the school and were particularly inspired by the vibrant Welsh displays and learning environments, which showcased the school’s commitment to promoting Cymraeg at every opportunity. The visit provided valuable ideas that our students are keen to bring back to Llanishen High School.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of making Welsh relevant and engaging for young people today. Following the popularity of artists such as Sage Todz and Dom a Lloyd with our students last year, the group explored ways of introducing more contemporary Welsh music and culture into school life, helping students to see Cymraeg as a living, modern language that belongs firmly in their everyday experiences.

We are especially grateful to Ysgol y Wern for their generosity in offering to support us by creating posters and display materials for our school. This partnership reflects the strong spirit of collaboration that exists between schools across Wales as we work together towards the shared goal of nurturing confident Welsh speakers and celebrating our national identity.

We look forward to building on the ideas gained from this visit and continuing our journey as a proud Welsh school where Cymraeg is visible, valued and celebrated by all. Keep an eye out for some exciting new Welsh-themed displays appearing around Llanishen High School soon!

Finally, we are pleased to promote this opportunity for free Welsh lessons online.  Whilst they offer courses for all ages, they are currently advertising for a course specifically aimed at 16–18-year-olds. Just scan the QR code for more details.

So, after an exhausting week, we wish everyone a very restful weekend.

Thank you for reading/Diolch am ddarllen,
