Congratulations
to all of Year 7 on a successful transition to high school – you made it in
one piece! You have already had a very positive impact on our school
community – particularly in your charity work and in the work you do through
the year council. Your efforts for Comic Relief were inventive and
determined and we hope you enjoy looking at the photos on our notice board.
The Eisteddfod was a
plethora of talent that we look forward to developing over the coming years!
And don’t forget that there are a multitude of additional clubs that you can
get involved in. Our gardening club are flourishing and the cooking club are
proving to be mini-masterchefs!
Friday numbers club
continues on a Friday morning for those of you who would appreciate a little
extra support in this area, and don’t forget that the skills and homework
club runs on a Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime just for Years 7 and 8.
We continue to promote
literacy throughout the year group with our silent reading morning and there
are always Buddies on hand on a Wednesday and Friday for those of you who
would appreciate a chat or the support of a genuinely lovely Year 11 pupil.
Iwan Matheson and his team will help you in any way that they can.
FRIDAY NUMBER CLUB
Every Friday morning while most of year 7 are in registration attempting to
complete the Friday Quiz some learners have been selected to enter an on
line maths competition to improve there basic maths skills. The learners
involved have had the opportunity to challenge the skills of other young
learners across the globe. Many thanks to Dr Lloyd of maths and Miss Cox
form learning support Cox have driven the project and both believe it is
helping learners improve Maths and ITC skills. Well done to all involved.

Year 7 Rugby Summary
A Cracking start for the year 7 rugby. The trials saw 60 boys chomping at
the bit to be involved in the school side. Monday lunchtime practices have
been attended by lots of keen boys. The autumn term has seen some fantastic
performances from both the A and B side. The most memorable victories came
from the 10-0 win over Glantaff A followed by a 12-10 thriller with the B
side. Some of the boys were then selected to play for in a 7-a-side
tournament at Sophia Gardens where the boys finished joint winners.

Since Christmas the boys have managed to achieve further success and have
made it through to the Cardiff School U12 final on March the 30th.
The real triumph has been the continued good attendance to training on
Monday lunchtimes, including boys who are new to the game. WELL DONE BOYS,
KEEP ENJOYING IT.
Year 7 Football
What a headache to select a side from such a talented year group. The first
few games of season straight away showed that this was a particularly strong
side. As well as a strong side the training sessions were attended by
upwards of 35 pupils.
The team came second in the Cardiff stages of the Welsh cup meaning they
progressed to the last 16 in Wales. In the Cardiff cup they reached the semi
final stage and lost 5-4 in extra time to Radyr in an epic encounter.

The guys not in the starting 11 have benefited from training with the 6th
form helpers every Thursday. The sessions I have attended have been full of
talented, enthusiastic and competitive boys Because of other schools
inability to raise a B side we have only had 1 match which they won 6-1. I
look forward to seeing them play more often.
Training session with the
All Blacks
Recently, members of
Llanishen high school Year 7 rugby squad had a once in a lifetime
opportunity to visit the Cardiff Blues stadium, Cardiff Arms Park, where
they met and trained with members of the All Blacks rugby team!
The experience began with everyone receiving their own kit and boots to
keep, because it was an Adidas promotion. After that there was a photo
shoot on the pitch with the New Zealand players and coaches before they
got down to the fun and hard work!!
They then had a training session with Steve Hansen, some All Blacks
players and some Cardiff Blues Academy coaches. They were split into
four groups and rotated around four training stations, with a few rugby
stars based on each. They spent fifteen minutes on each station doing
skills such as passing, tackling and kicking, using methods used by the
professionals!
After the training session one group got to be filmed with the All
Blacks which was live on New Zealand television! But everyone was filmed
while doing the training session which was shown on Wales Today.
Finally, they all went inside and took part in a question and answer
session with the members of the All Blacks team. This was followed by an
autograph session, where the players signed autograph books, kit, rugby
balls etc.
That brought an end to their truly spectacular experience.
A special thanks to Mr. Trelawney for organizing the trip.

Year 7 Fitness Club
Every Monday and Wednesday when the rest of Wales is waking many Year 7
Boys have been attending a morning of fitness with Mr Trelawny. This has
involved some rigorous speed training and some cutting edge agility
work. The boys have also experienced the rowing machines and are getting
noticeably fitter all the time. Well done in particular to John Lloyd,
Michael Gray, Zach Johnson, Jack Chick, Kieran Roach, Chris Board, Sean
Lynch and many others who attend.

The club is open to all boys and there is now a boxercise session every
Tuesday at 7:30 until 8:15.

Year 7 Eisteddfod
I would like to thank all learners and staff who took part in the
Eisteddfod on Friday 6 March. It was a wonderful opportunity for form
tutors and heads of year to see the amount of talent the year group has.
There were some outstanding performances during the morning;
entertaining versions of ‘Y parti’ and ‘tu les comment’, the
instrumentals were superb as well as some very good singing and dancing
performances
Congratulations to 7F who managed to win over all. All 3 of the Pupils
who achieved the outstanding contributions came from this form. Miss
Goaman was very proud as were all of us.

Many thanks to Mrs James and Miss Loveless for all their hard work with
all the musicians and singers. All the hard work made for an excellent
celebration. What a loss Miss loveless will be when she leaves us soon
Thanks go to the Welsh Department for organizing the day. We are very
grateful to Laura Evans, Hana Tuhami and Ieuan Matheson who judged the
music events for us. Thanks also to Mr Murphy for taking photos of the
event.
I can only apologise for my inability to sing the Welsh national anthem
and it my goal to know it next year.

Saga writing competition
This was a run by an
organisation called 'Young Writers'. Year 7,8 and 9 pupils wrote,
proofread and edited their stories in their Learning Support Group.

Over 30 stories were
sent off to the competition and it seems that we had as many as 20
winners from our School. We are thrilled that so many of our pupils have
had their stories selected for inclusion in a book that is due to be
published in July
