Super Learner Day

The fourth annual Super Learner Day proved as successful as the previous three! All staff and students from years 7, 10 & 12 were engaged in a wide range of topics that would "help equip students with the skills required to cope with the curriculum of the twenty first century."

All staff were involved in the delivery of the sessions and all those students who took part developed new skills and strategies to progress and learn more effectively in school. These transferable skills can be used by the students in a wide range of subjects and situations. The feedback from both students and staff was very positive and the Super Learner Day has now become an established way to begin the school year.

The year 12 day was organised in a completely new way. The Welsh Baccalaureate was introduced in 2009, which gives year 12 students an opportunity to gain accreditation for the whole range of key skills and additional topic, and a great was of achieving 120 UCAS points equivalent to an A at A2 Level. To develop this theme, a 'Dragon's Den' style day was introduced where students created, designed and presented ideas on gadgets that would benefit mankind. A grand idea that sparked off a storm of activity and culminated in some very creative and imaginative gadgets being presented. Rivalry was fierce amongst both students and staff who worked enthusiastically throughout the day.
