A very warm welcome from your PTA!
If you’ve clicked your way to this page of the website, then we hope it’s not because your mouse was misbehaving, but because you actually want to know more. In which case, thanks for coming - and please do read on…

Like many schools, Llanishen High has a thriving and enthusiastic PTA, committed to raising much needed funds for the benefit of the pupils in the school. But that’s obviously not all we’re about.

Once children go to High School, parents and carers very often take a back seat. Not only because the school gate is no longer a place for them to meet up when the bell goes (way too embarrassing for the average teenager), but also because High School feels very much our children’s territory; a place we only enter rarely. Whereupon, naturally, we immediately get lost…

Of course, the PTA doesn’t exist in order to direct us to Room 45 or S6, but it is probably the best way there is to get to know the school, the staff, and, of course, your fellow parents – and so feel much more a part of the place where your children spend so much of their time.

Which is all well and good, and very worthwhile, of course, but the trouble with many PTAs, particularly in High Schools (where the average school bag has so many unexplored and fetid corners) is that a) so few people seem to know what they’re up to, and b) they often feel like impenetrable cliques, where a bunch of strange people practice dark arts in broom cupboards.

But we’re not like that, honest! We are always keen to recruit new members (putting on events needs both ideas and manpower), so if you feel you’d like to support the school in this way, please don’t be shy – we’d love to meet you!

We hold monthly meetings at 7pm in the sixth form common room (down the steps to the hall and then straight on till you get there…) – go to the calendar of events page for the dates – or call our Chair, Andy Falleyn, on 07960 745425.

We do also, however, recognise that not everyone has the time to make that sort of commitment, but that doesn’t mean you can’t offer your support and be involved, by coming along to some of our many events. At which we guarantee you’ll have a really good time. Just ask anyone who who’s been to one!
