LHS A Level Results Day 2019

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rieni,Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr,

After a long and torturous wait, the first of our summer results days is FINALLY here.

Please join me in celebrating and congratulating our Sixth Form students on an exceptional set of results today! We are extremely proud of their achievements in the full range of AS, A2 and BTEC level 3 qualifications.

These outcomes are so well deserved for these students and reflect their hard work and study. We are extremely proud of our A-Level outcomes in the core subjects. In Physics, our Year 13 students secured 50% of all grades at A*-A. In Chemistry, our Year 13 students secured 47% of all grades at A*-A. In Mathematics, 40% of the grades were at A*-A. In English Literature, 42% of the grades were at A*-A.

Other headline figures at A2 include:

  • English Literature, Physics, Music, Politics secured 100% of grades at A*-C
  • In Economics, 36% of grades were at A*-A
  • In French and Geography, 50% of grades were at A*-A

We are immensely proud of every student. Outcomes in BTEC Health and Social Care and BTEC Sport were very strong (100% pass rate), allowing students access to worthwhile vocations and career entry (as far afield as Memphis!). Many students have successfully secured places at a range of Russell Group universities to pursue a wide range of degree courses. For many students, their success in the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate was a contributing factor to their UCAS success with 100% of entries achieving the qualification.

Particular recognition must go to the following students:

  • Megan Brown, Alice Cann, Leah Coulter, Ben Crocker, Ollie Dell’Armi, Alys Murphy, Jo Radulovic, Gwyn Rich and Jazmin Stacey on achieving 4 A*-A grades
  • Alex Doughty, Tyler Meechem and Megan Player on achieving 4 A*-C grades
  • Cole Jarvis on achieving A*A*A*D, James Story and Tom Jenkin on achieving 3 A* grades, Eirian Tompkins on A*A*A, Guy O-Keefe on his A*AA, Imani Afzal on A*AAB, Sam Bodger on AAAB and Isaac Jones on AAA

Although these students will be incredibly modest about their achievements, we want to shout about them from the rafters as they are inspirational role models for the school community. Ben Crocker achieved a phenomenal 100% UMS in his Maths A level. This means that he achieved 600 out of 600, not dropping a single UMS mark! Tom Jenkin did likewise in Biology, achieving 500 out of 500 UMS marks! Also, Jo Radulovic only dropped 1 single UMS mark over her entire 5 units in A level Geography. We are truly in awe.

We were also extremely pleased to congratulate Tom Jenkin who secured the 3 A* grades needed to study Veterinary Science at the Royal Veterinary College in London. A very proud family and rightly so!

We would also like to congratulate our Year 12 students on their outcomes. The future is very bright for this cohort. In particular:

  • Donte Day, Alex Fairhurst, Bethan Hawkins. Zoe Shapcott and Hama Sharif on 4 straight A grades at AS
  • Lili Rainer, Maia Wildin and Owen Yip on achieving AAAB at AS
  • Kate Burgess on achieving AAA at AS

I would like to end by reiterating that we are so proud of every grade that has been worked for and secured.

Results days are the two best days of the year for us. As always, it has been a joy and a privilege to meet the students this morning.

Hopefully the tears, trials and tribulations of the last few months will have been worth it!

We take some temporary respite before we do it all again next week for our wonderful Year 10 and 11 students.

I’ll leave you with a few more emotions!

Thank you for reading/Diolch am ddarllen,

Mrs Sarah Parry, Headteacher
