The School Council in all their glory!



LLANISHEN HIGH SCHOOL COUNCIL


The school Council within Llanishen High School was set up three years ago as part of one of our Healthy Schools targets and have developed into an organised, confident group of pupils who are keen to express their views at meetings, which take place on a regular basis.

The school council member’s feedback to year representatives for their year group regarding views that are being expressed at meetings and any projects the school council are undertaking. Keeping everyone informed of current issues, initiatives and ideas. The School Council members are pro-active and understand their roles within the council. They all believe strongly that student voice is vital in the school and should be heard.

The members have made a dramatic impact on the school over the last three years and have played a vital part in improving the school environment. Here are some examples of their work:

1. New design on the school jumpers;
2. Calm room set up for counselling;
3. New benches in the quad;
4. Improvements for the school toilets;
5. Design and introduction of the bike stands within Llanishen High School;
6. Projects to improve relationships with the community- Sainsbury’s & Cardiff Transport Company;
7. Involved with the Secondary School Students Forum for Cardiff and the Vale Schools (sixth form representatives);
8. Participated in a School Audit for Cardiff County Schools Liaison team to promote active citizenship of children and young people in Cardiff and to research if children and young people are enable to engage in meaningful decisions that affect their lives;
9. Sixth form representatives of the school council attend governors meetings and are involved in the decision making process of whole school issues;
10. Designing and producing the first issue of the LHS Newsletter produced by students for students in 2009- ongoing project;
11. The resurface of the yard with lines for a basketball court, with fixed posts and a netball court.

Future plans involve:

1. New plasma screens around the school (west wing and east wing foyer).

As a result of this thriving school council, sub-committees have also been formed including the:

1. S.N.A.C.K Group;
2. Eco-council.
 

PREVIOUS PROJECTS INCLUDE:

1. New design on the school jumpers;
