KS5 Overview

 

What is Sociology?

Sociology is the study of societies and how they shape peoples ideas, their social behaviour and their cultures. In turn we look at how people interact together to shape their society. Sociology requires you to take a step back and think about woder perspectives and aspects that affect all of us.

What is Psychology?

Psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour of individuals. Psychology is useful for those wishing to embark on para medical careers. Psychology will give you a better understanding of your own and other peoples behaviour

 

As level Shopping List.

  • Collins As Sociology for OCR (2004)

  • Harlambos M, Developments in Sociology, Causeway.

  • Sociology Review, Phillip Allen Publishers (Optional).

 

At least 1 Revision guide from the list below.

  • Letts Revision guide As level sociology

  • Moore s, Chapman s and Aiken D, Sociology for as level, Collins 2001.

  • W H Smith A level sociology Revision.

 

Please make sure you have at least:-

  • 3 lever arch file’s or 4 standard files for the start of the course

  • A pen

  • A4 lined paper pad

  • Plastic pockets

Sociology Assessment methods

You will undertake 2 examinations at both AS and A2 level and one piece of coursework

 

At AS level - 1000 word report

At A2 level 2500 word project on a subject of your choice.

 

 

Psychology Assessment methods

For each topic at AS level a short test at the end of section A, B & C.

Test at the end of every topic

 

 

Sociology Homework

Homework is set on a regular basis between both teachers. Homework will be given in a week A by Miss Warman, and week B by Mr Webb.

 

Coursework will require extra time as well as regular homeworks, and will be carried out in class time as well as at home.

 

Psychology Homework

Homework will be set every week by alternate teachers

 

Revision (both subject areas)

Revision guides will be issued and Letts revision guides are a suggested purchase. Revision lessons will be given at the end of every unit and before external examinations
